Eman, Tawakkul 'alALLAH and the Immense love and strive for Akhirah use to be the first priority for our Sahabahs and Sahabiyath.
Here is the mention of One such Sahabiyath, Subhanallah!!!
May ALLAH swt make us be like them, aameen. We are going to discuss about Asma 'Bint Abu Bakr (Radhiyallahu Anha) today, in'shaa ALLAH.
Asma Bint Abu Bakr (Radhiyallahu Anha) was the daughter of Abu Bakr Siddiq (Radhiyallahu 'Anhu). Her mother's name was
Qatilah bint 'Uza. For a long time her
mother did not accept Islam; finally after the conquest of Makkah she
pledged allegiance to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)
Asma was among the one who gave pledge to the Prophet (pbuh) and firmly believed in him in Mecca and was among the first reverts.
She was intelligent, courageous, a generous lady.
She was given the title Zât an-Nitâqayn (the possessor of the two bands) by Rasoolullah saw.
She was given the title Zât an-Nitâqayn (the possessor of the two bands) by Rasoolullah saw.
It so happened that: When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and Abu Bakr
As-Siddiq prepared to set off for Al-Madinah, Asma Radhiyallahu 'anha packed the eatables
into a leather bag, but there was no rope with which she could tie up
the mouth of the bag. So she divided her girdle into two and used one
part to tie up the leather bag. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon
him) blessed her and said that in place of this one girdle that she
sacrificed, she would get two in Paradise. So, he implied that she would
go to Paradise. In this manner the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon
him) gave the news of a glorious Hereafter to his faithful Companions, Subhanallah!!!
After her father and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)
left, Asma' was left with her blind and aged grandfather, Abu Quhafah.
When he realized that his son had migrated he was sad. Then he was
worried whether he had left any cash for expenses. She narrated that
they had about four or five thousand Dinars in the house and her father
had taken it all for the expenses of the journey and to spend it in the path of ALLAH subhanahu wa ta'ala. But, she comforted the aged grandfather, saying there was plenty in the house, and nothing was lacking.
In order to convince him she collected some pebbles that were of the
size of Dinars; these she put in a pot and spreaded a cloth over them.
Then she guided his old hands over the cloth; Abu Quhafah was very
pleased that his son had not neglected them. Asma' had done this for her grandfather's peace of mind. Subhanallah!!!
Asma was married to Zubayr bin 'Awam, a companion of Rasoolullah saw.
Narrated Asmâ’ bint Abu Bakr:
When Az-zubair married me, he had not real property or anything else
except a camel, which drew water from the well, and his horse. I used to
feed his horse with fodder and drew water and sew the bucket for
drawing it, and prepare the dough, but I did not know how to bake bread.
So our ansari neighbouress used to bake bread for me, and they were
honorable ladies. I used to carry the date stones on my head from
Zubair’s land to him by Allah’s Messenger and this land was two third
Farsakh (About two miles) from my house. One day, while I was coming
with the date stones on my head, I met Allah’s Messenger along with some
Ansari people. He called me and then, (directing his camel to kneel
down) said, “Ikh! Ikh!” so as to make me ride behind him (on his camel).
I felt shy to travel with the men and remembered Az- Zubair and his
sense of Ghira (being jealous), for he had the greatest sense of Ghira
of all the people. Allah’s Messenger (pbuh) noticed that I felt shy, so
he proceeded. I came to Az-Zubair and said, “I met Allah’s Messenger
(pbuh) while I was carrying a load of date stones on my, and he had some
companions with him. He made his camel kneel down so that I might ride,
but I felt shy in his presence and remembered your sense of Ghira. On
that Az-Zubair said, “By Allah, your carrying the date-stones (and you
being seen by the Prophet (pbuh) in such a state) is more shameful to me
than your riding with him. (i.e. You should have obeyed the Prophet).'”
(I continued serving in this way) untill Abu Bakr sent me a servant to
look after the horse, whereupon I felt as if he had set me free.”
Asma Radhiyallahu 'anha was blessed with a son when she was migrating to Al-Madinah, near the valley of Quba she went
into labor, and gave birth to a son 'Abdullah bin Zubayr (Radhiyallahu Anhu) . Prophet
(peace and blessings be upon him) he picked up the baby in his arms and
congratulated the family. Then he bit off a little piece of a date,
softened it in his mouth and gave it to the baby. This was an honor that
made the family feel very proud. Later Zubair (Radhiyallahu anhu) became a rich man. Asma(Radhiyallahu Anha), She was so generous that when felling ill she would wait until she recovered and then free her slaves. Subhanallah!!!
She was a brave lady who would always be ready to serve deen, She didnot set herself back when there were times to show her service for deen, She took part in the battle of Yarmuk and fought bravely. She also kept a
dagger to defend herself when thieves appeared in Medina at the time of
Sa’id Ibn Al-‘As.
She was a brave mother who would constantly guide her son,
When Abdbullah (Radhiyallahu Anha) moved to Makkah she also accompanied him. He did not accept
Banu Umayyah as the caliph and tried to set up his own caliphate; he
succeeded in winning the support of most people since they acknowledged
him to be a powerful, learned and brave man. However, when 'Abdul Malik
bin Marwan ascended the throne, he took over some of the provinces. He
sent Hajjaj bin Yusuf as his representative to Hijaz. Hajjaj took
command of the Syrian forces and besieged, attacking it from all sides;
an intense battle ensued between the two forces.
A desperate battle was being waged now in Makkah itself and 'Abdullah
bin Zubayr's army was facing defeat. He went to see his mother who was
at the mosque and asked her if he should surrender. She replied that if
he was in the right he should not worry about dying. He said he feared
that the enemy would cut up his body after death. She answered wisely it
was irrelevant what they did with the body. Once a goat is slaughtered
the skinning cannot cause it any pain. She added that fear of death
should not stand in the way of a truly courageous man. Death with honour
was better than a life of peace with dishonor. A disgraceful peace did
not suit a young hero like him. So 'Abdullah bin Zubayr returned to the
battlefield with renewed ardour and advanced through the ranks fighting
courageously; but since they were outnumbered he died the death of a
martyr.
When Hajjaj saw the mother standing near the son's body he sent a
messenger to bring her to him. She answered that
she would not go to see her son's murderer. When Hajjaj bin Yusuf got
the message, he was filled with rage. She was brave enough to answer Hajjaj:
“You spoiled his life but he spoiled your next.”
She beared patience, but she didnot scattered. She was always ready to preach the right word and to support the truth not worrying about who is infront of her. She feared only ALLAH swt.
Asma (Radhiyallahu Anha) had a very sharp memory. If she heard anything even once she would
never forget it, she also has many ahadiths attributed to her.
Many Companions and successors would come to her for guidance and
verification of Ahadiths. Subhanallah!!!!
We must try to learn many lessons from Sahabahs and Sahabiyaths, they are role models for us after Rasoolullah saw.
We are weak, we need to become strong like the ones passed by, May ALLAH swt be pleased with them. We must exhibit courage at times of need, we must help and serve the deen as much as we can, we must bear patience and act with wisdom constantly encouraging our fellow Muslims to stand firm in following Deen to the best.
May ALLAH swt help us all, grant us patience, strength and success, Aameen.
Rabbana Afrigh 'alayna Sabraww, wa thabbit Aqdamana wansurna 'alal Qawmil Kafireen, aameen.
